Industrial Hemp Act 2023
We all rejoiced when the Hemp Farming Act included in the 2018 Farming Bill removed and defined hemp under a .3% THC content on a dry weight basis from the controlled substances act. Which created pathway for US farmers to grow hemp again. However, many of the farmers who started to grow hemp for the fiber or grain industry soon ran into new hurdles. When a farmer submits an application to grow hemp they are then run threw a vigorous back ground check to make sure they don't plan to grow hemp with more than 0.3% THC levels. Yet once a farmer passes the back ground check and starts to harvest their hemp crop. They are subject to several expensive and time consuming sampling and testing protocols.
Thankfully, there is some light to come for hemp farmers. On March 29th 2023 senators Jon Tester and Mike Braun have introduced the Hemp Industrial Act of 2023. To lessen the burdens the US government is putting on Hemp farmers. In this new bill, hemp farmers would have less extensive background checks will be done on new applicants; while also making sampling and testing protocols less mandatory. It is the hope of senators Jon and Mike that with less regulations and un-needed fees that more farmers will be interested in the hemp farming industry while also making present hemp farmers breathe easier and expand their fields.
