Prop 64 has passed in the California election! Parts of Prop 64 have gone into effect immediately and that includes the cultivation of industrial hemp and as of November 9th, industrial hemp is legal in California! This is huge as hemp, either in raw form or as the final product, was still being imported from other countries such as China and Canada. There have been a few universities, institutions and businesses that were allowed to grow hemp for research purposes, but with the ability to cultivate it now in California, we should start to see it becoming more popular as a source for food, paper, fabrics and material and more. This will benefit the local economy with more money being brought in through local tax dollars while providing an entirely new industry for jobs.
